Awarded by the President, in the name of Congress, the Medal of Honor commemorates those who have shaped our nation’s history and continue to inspire its future with their acts of valor, patriotism, and sacrifice.

Over 40 million Americans who have served in the US Armed Forces since the Civil War. Fewer than 4,000 have been awarded the Medal of Honor.  Stand in the presence of nations heroes and experience their stories of valor firsthand.

RING OF VALOR: HONOR COMES FULL CIRCLE
Surround yourself with the legacies of those who went above and beyond in this ever-expanding exhibit that represents all of us—and the best in us.  Every Museum guest begins their journey by entering the majestic Rotunda, a stunning circular space surrounding the Ring of Valor.

Displayed in no particular order, the names of Medal of Honor Recipients stand side by side, reflecting the shared values of courage, sacrifice, and service.

MEDAL OF HONOR EXPERIENCE
Honor comes full circle in this 360-degree short film, The Courage Within, showcasing the history and impact of the Medal of Honor.

MEDALS EXHIBITS: HONORING ABOVE AND BEYOND
Located throughout the Museum, these Medal Exhibits offer a deep dive into the evolving impact of the Medal of Honor—and those who wear it.

Explore the physical design and symbology of the Medal of Honor as it's represented through the branches of the US Armed Forces and Recipient artifacts.  Uncover the history of the Medal of Honor and how it has changed since it was created in 1861. Learn the criteria of the Medal of Honor, how it can be presented, and the evidence required for recommendation.

Placed throughout the Exhibit Deck, The exhibits will take you on a journey of discovery through the “ordinary” lives and extraordinary actions of Medal of Honor Recipients.

Experience the Interactive Exhibits Scroll through the lives of featured Recipients as you see Medal of Honor values in action—long before and beyond the battlefield. Discover the Pictures and Artifacts and meet the Recipients through powerful images and artifacts from their lives. Get a personal glimpse into their stories of courage and sacrifice.

MOMENTS OF ACTION EXHIBIT
Step into virtual Medal of Honor battlefields and landscapes and meet the Recipients whose extraordinary actions continue to inspire—in vivid high-definition.​ Explore our nation’s most hallowed ground, Arlington National Cemetery, through stories, alongside a tribute to the Unknown Soldiers laid to rest here.

FROM RAILS TO ROTORS EXHIBIT
THE HUEY  HAS LANDED
Experience the legend and legacy of the Huey helicopter and the dangerous Dustoff missions that saved thousands of lives in Vietnam. Machinery and the Medal of Honor have a storied history. Get a close-up look into the Huey helicopter and the role machines play in Medal of Honor actions.  View one-of-a-kind artifacts from the Museum’s collection that reflect the service and legacy of Huey helicopter pilots.

DUSTOFF: COMING TO THE RESCUE

Coming to the Rescue In this virtual reality experience, you will take part in a critical Dustoff medical mission. Will you safely rescue the wounded? (Not included.  Additional tickets and pre-booking required).

CONVERSATIONS: ORDINARY PEOPLE, EXTRAORDINARY LIVES
Ask a Medal of Honor Recipient Anything.  Interview a Medal of Honor Recipient to discover who they are, where they came from, and what they remember about their time in service. To create this interactive experience, Recipients shared stories about their lives before, during, and after their Medal of Honor action. Innovative technology connects your questions to their responses.
